The leadership style that I like to use and the one that I think is the most effective is the democratic leadership style. This type of leadership style allows everyone in the team to voice their opinion and have some sort of say. This leadership style is effective because everyone can contribute to the team and this gives him or her a sense of belonging. This leadership style relates to Mary Parker Follet’s administrative principles. A democratic leadership style will give the people a sense of community and collective responsibility. I think this is the best leadership style because it allows workers to labour in harmony. There is no one dominant party and there is the freedom to talk over and truly reconcile conflicts and differences.
Leadership is important in the everyday life and this can be seen everywhere, from your home to the workplace. Leadership is important to me because it plays a large role in my life. Everywhere I go and everything I do, leadership must be taken place. For example, when I am at home, my parents are the leaders and I must follow their rules and demands. They use an authoritative leadership style at home, which means I must listen to the higher ranks, which are my parents. They use this leadership style to run a system so that everything in the house runs smoothly. There are many other places where leadership can be seen in my life but my home is one of the many examples. As you can see, leadership is mandatory in my life thus it is very important to me. Without leadership in my life, my life would be very chaotic and everything will be very dysfunctional.
Everybody has different leadership traits that they excel in and that they do poorly in. I characterize myself as an honest, flexible, and motivational leader. My parents raised me to always tell the truth because honesty is the best policy. Being honest to the people around you allows them to trust you, which results in a good relationship, one that allow good leaders need. In terms of time and work schedules, I can be very flexible and work around other people’s busy schedules. Although this may sometimes be beneficial, sometimes this may cause the person to think that I can always work around his schedule. This could result in a major conflict in the future if a habit is formed. I think I am a motivational leader, as I like to get people to push people and encourage them if they are trying to achieve the same goals. This is good because if I can get my team motivated, I will also be motivated to work and in the end everyone will be willing to work. These traits are the main characteristics that I think fit me the most. They are the characteristics that I think help me enhance my leadership qualities the most.
In my opinion, the three most important leadership traits are honesty and integrity, self-confidence, and flexibility. Honesty and integrity is important because in order for others to trust you and you to trust others, both parties must be honest to each other. If both parties are honest with each other, a trusting relationship can be established and thus a better team can be built. Self-confidence is also important because in order for your team members to have faith in you or the team as a whole, the leader must have faith in themselves first. If leaders shows that they are confident in themselves and the team, then the other team members won't be as worried. Confidence is key in leadership as it helps bring the full potential out of a person. Flexibility is also an essential part to being a great leader because the leader should be able to work with their members for most of the time. If the leader cannot work at the same times as the members than the relationship cannot be built. Flexibility is key here because if leaders can work with others face-to-face, then the channel of communication is much more rich. The team will be more productive because everybody will have an easier time working with each other.
